10 Ways To Be More Self Aware


  1. Respond vs React: This is very hard but very rewarding. If a conversation or event triggers a reaction, stop! it’s the hardest thing to do, but pause and think where your reaction is coming from, then respond.
  2. Projection: If you can catch what flaws you project on to others, you are half way there. If you pay attention, you will catch others projecting and you will never take anything personally.
  3. Relationships: They can be intimate or just friendships. We learn about ourselves through interactions with others.
  4. Constructive Criticism: Take it! You don’t have to agree with any criticism, but be open minded and be welcoming of it. It IS the best teacher, and can be the most painful.
  5. Ego: Leave it at the door. Your ego is not your amigo.
  6. Character Defects: Sounds morbid, right? Make a list. What are parts of you that you want to improve? Not for others, but you?
  7. Reflection: Look at your past. Where, why and what went wrong? And how do you fix it?
  8. Stay Present: All we have is right now. Getting ahead of yourself creates worry. We have no control of the past, and very little control of the future.
  9. Control: We can’t control people, places nor things. What can we control? OUR, thoughts, actions and reactions. Your mind can be your enemy or friend.
  10. Higher power: When life has got you down and you are at a loss, turn it over to someone else. That’s, true awareness. Being, aware enough to know, there’s something greater than us, is a relief. Try it, it works. Let shit go.
